More Than Stability: How CATHAYLIFT's Polar-Grade Track Technology Won Over a Nordic Customer
Winter in Norway, with its blizzards, fierce winds, and long polar nights, is a severe test for any outdoor machinery. A large shipyard in the Tromsø port found itself facing a tough challenge:High-altitude welding operations need to be carried out in extremely cold weather.
Initially, the shipyard used wheeled lifts from a well-known European brand. But on the icy ground, the tires slipped constantly, making it impossible to position the machine accurately on slopes. The hydraulic oil also thickened in the low temperatures, causing the boom to respond sluggishly.
Frustrated, the project manager contacted CATHAYLIFT's Norwegian distributor, urgently needing equipment that could move as steadily on snow and ice as on solid ground. The CATHAYLIFT team recommend the tracked manlift.
When the yellow machine arrived at the site, the workers were immediately drawn to its tracked undercarriage. These weren't ordinary tracks. They were rubber tracks specially optimized by CATHAYLIFT for polar conditions - low ground pressure that not only protected the surface but also provided powerful grip on ice.
During actual operation, the TR Series completely won over the Nordic workers. On the sloped deck of a ship, the machine used its one-key auto-leveling function. Four outriggers dug into the ice surface like claws, and as the platform rose to 14 meters (46 feet), there was minimal sway. What amazed the engineers the most was its ability to turn in place even on snow piles - far more maneuverable than wheeled machines.
The shipyard manager wrote in his acceptance report: "It moves like a snow tank."
This single order not only sold the equipment but also established CATHAYLIFT's reputation in the Nordic extreme-cold rental market.
