German Engineer Tells The Story Of China's High-altitude Equipment Conquest

Apr 14, 2025

"This elevator changed my professional perception!" Hans Muller, a senior equipment engineer from Munich, excitedly demonstrated his new equipment at the restoration site of the Berlin Concert Hall dome - a self-propelled aluminum alloy elevator made in China. As an expert in aerial work for 25 years, he admitted that this is the first time to use Chinese equipment in a major cultural landmark project in Europe.

When the project started, the Hans team had planned to use a traditional steel elevator, but faced with a century-old corridor only 1.2 meters wide. The Chinese supplier shipped this' Transformer ', which shrinks and is very portable!" With the lightweight design of the battery pack, the total weight of the equipment is 210kg lighter than that of similar products in Europe, which perfectly solves the problem of load-bearing restrictions in the protection of ancient buildings.

During three weeks of painting the dome, Hans was full of praise for the device's intelligent control system: "The touch panel is as intuitive as a smartphone, so my presopia is no longer an obstacle." What surprises him more is the built-in charging system, "which is more reliable than the three conventional batteries we have on hand."

The breakthrough design of safety performance has won the collective recognition of the German team. As the device moved across the slippery marble floor, the nanotire demonstrated a grip that amazed site supervisors. Hans noted: "The buzzer's pulsating warning sound is cleverly designed so that it does not continuously interfere with operations, while accurately alerting staff at every turn."

Project Director Schmidt wrote in the acceptance report: "Made in China is redefining industry standards. Compared to the German equipment, this lift enables the construction to proceed 18 days ahead of schedule, saves energy costs by 42% and, crucially, achieves the preservation requirement of zero ground damage." At present, the Hans team has ordered five additional devices and plans to recommend this "wisdom solution from the East" to the European Alliance for the Restoration of Monuments.
